Funeral services for William Oliver Hairston, Jr., of 309 Second St., will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Erickson and Brown Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Slorpe of the Presbyterian Church, and officers of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 426. Veterans’ funeral rites will be conducted at West Side District Cemetery. Mr. Hairston, retired employee of the Chancellor Western Oil Development Company of Fellows, died Tuesday at a Los Angeles hospital. He was 71. He had resided in California for 63 years and on the West Side for 55 years. Mr. Hairston was born on Dec. 15, 1892 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 426, Taft Rebekahs, the Encampment, Veterans of Foreign Wars, World War I Veterans. In addition, he was a past grand of the local Odd Fellows Lodge and a past district deputy grand master in the International Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Hairston is survived by his widow Luella May of Taft; a brother, Harry J. of Fellows; two sisters, Ora Rider of Widsor, Calif., and Beulah Norman Cann of Santa Cruz; and a stepdaughter, Elda Reynolds of Porterville.
