Rowan Davan Stringer, 84, of 204 Polk St., died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was a retired custodian of the Kern Mutual Telephone Co. and had resided in Taft for 31 years. Mr. Stringer was born Feb. 3, 1880 in Silver Creek, Miss. Survivors include his widow, Lena of Taft; five daughters, Mrs. Virginia Norman and Mrs. Frances Horack, both of Taft, Mrs. Marion Pittman of Poplarville, Miss., Mrs. Martha Jo Robey of Sunnyvale and Mrs. Rose Lynn Davidson of Marysville; one son, James of Paso Robles; 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Warren Stringer of North Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Kirby of Jackson Miss., and Mrs. Emma Ballard of Leland, Miss. Services were held today at graveside at the West Side District Cemetery wit his son-in-law , the Rev. James L. Davidson, officiating.
