Richard K. Newman Sr., for 34 years a resident of Taft, died in a local hospital yesterday following a lengthy illness. Mr. Newman, who made his home at 123 Lierly Street, was born in Russelville, Kentucky, March 2, 1885. He was a former Richfield Oil Co. employee. He is survived by his widow, Beulah, proprietor of ”Scotties Kitchen,” 216 Fourth Street; one son, Richard K. ”Stubby” Newman who resides in Bakersfield; a sister, Edwin Adams of Avon Park, Florida; three brothers, Frank, Benjamin and Nelson of Bordo, Kentucky, and six grandchildren. Prior to his illness Mr. Newman was employed at Sparkle Cleaners, then known as Sanitex Cleaners, under managership of his son. Christian Science services will be conducted in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Mrs. O.P. Rennels as reader. Interment will follow in the West Side Cemetery.
