Pioneer Taft oil man Milford (Milt) Byron Sheats, 112 Oak Street, died Saturday morning in a local hospital. He was 82. Sheats was born April 19, 1881, in Lamartine, Pennsylvania. He moved to Oil City, Penn., and began working in the oilfields at the age of 18. Moving to Taft in 1913, Sheats pioneered in the West Side, oilfields and was employed with the Honolulu,Murvale and Standard Oil Companies. He retired from Standard in 1944 and moved to Redondo Beach in 1946, residing there for overt 16 years before moving back to Taft. He is survived by his widow, Wilda of Taft; a nephew, Jack McCall of Taft; and other nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Miller of the First Methodist Church conducting the rites. Burial will follow in the West Side District Cemetery.
