Melvin Vernon Parker, 57, of New Cuyama, died yesterday at a local hospital. He was born in Albert, Kan., on Oct. 21, 1906 and had been a resident here for the past 19 years. Survivors include his wife, Irene E.; one daughter, Mrs. Amy Cecelia Leon of Compton; one stepson, Billy R. Mallan of Taft; four grandchildren; one brother, U.F. Parker of Marble Falls, Tex.; five sisters, Mrs. Verna Brack of Otis, Kan., Mrs. Vera Folkerts of La Crosse, Kan., Mrs. Clelia Folkerts of Albert, Kan., Mrs. Anna Talbott of Halstead; Kan., and Mrs. Margaret Cauthon of Scotts City, Kan. Mr. Parker was an employee of Richfield Oil Company, where he worked for 17 years. He was a veteran of World War II and was an electrician’s mate first class in the Navy. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson and Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James F. Kubik of First Methodist Church in New Cuyama officiating. Burial will be at West Side District Cemetery.
