Former Taftian Marion P. Johns of Avenal died yesterday of injuries he suffered last Saturday in a motorcycle accident. Mr. Johns died in an Avenal hospital at the age of 49. He was a native of Oklahoma and was born in 1915. Mr. Johns worked for Standard Oil Company in Taft for many years. In recent years, he was a troubleshooter in Standard’s Avenal telephone department. He attended Taft Schools and was a past mater of Coalinga Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Clara of Avenal; one son, Chuck of Avenal; a daughter, Clarion Weeth of Coalinga; three brothers, George W. of Taft, F.P. of Graham, Tex., and Henry S. of Bakersfield; four sisters, Ruth Varble of Avenal, Mae Upton of Adelanto, Eva Upton of Riverside and Lora Gill of Corning; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Coalinga. The Coalinga Masonic Lodge will be in charge. Burial will be at West Side District Cemetery here.
