A pioneer Westsider died last night in a Bakersfield hospital. Mrs. Lucy Fairbanks Kanode had lived on the Westside for the past 44 years and was born near Simmler in Carrisa Plains, January 4, 1888. She is the widow of the late Harry R. Kanode and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mel (Sheila) Johnson of Taft, two sons, Charles and Harry of Taft and three brothers, Frank and Norman Fairbanks of Taft and Willard Fairbanks of San Luis Obispo. She is survived by four grandchildren. Mrs. Kanode was a member of the American Legion Taft Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, at 10 a.m. in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Westside District Cemetery. Rev. Quentin Mitchell and the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct the services.
