L.J. Smith, 800 Lincoln Street, succumbed while visiting his daughter, Mr. Evelyn Wood, in Ventura Wednesday morning. Mr. Smith had resided on the West Side 41 years and most of that time he resided in Maricopa. He was retired from the Standard Oil Company. He was a native of Virginia and was born in 1880. Survivors include his widow, Hattie Mae Smith, of the home address, four daughters, Mrs. Wood of Ventura; Eva Smith, Taft; Mrs. Betty Herr and Mrs. Barbara Dickerson, both of Ventura. Four sons, W.M. Arroyo Grande; Leonard, Anaheim; Richard, Mount Vernon, N.Y., and L.J. Smith, Jr., Maricopa. Several grandchildren and other relatives also survive. Funeral services will be conducted in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Claude Moore of the Missionary Baptist Church in Maricopa officiating. Interment will be in the West Side Cemetery.
