Funeral services for John Ray Messinger will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Chapel. Mr. Messinger died early Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach. He was well known in educational circles throughout the state and county and had been superintendent of the Maricopa School District for six years. He was stricken in his hotel room in the coastal city and his wife, Dorothy and Son, Marty, rushed to the hospital and reached his bedside prior to his death. Superintendent Messinger had been a resident of the state for 31 years. He was born November 24, 1903 in Klondyke, Oregon. Funeral services conducted in the Chapel by Dr. B. C. Barrett, First Baptist Church of Bakersfield and Reverend Lawrence Grainger of the Maricopa Congregational Church. Graveside committal services will be conducted by Past Master of Maricopa Lodge, 434, Carl Moore. Mr. Messinger was a member of the Maricopa Exchange Club, Delano Masonic Lodge 309, and First Baptist Church of Bakersfield. He was graduated from Chico State College in 1930 where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree and he earned a Master of Arts degree from Oregon State College. He also did graduate work at the University of California at Los Angeles, specializing in administration. He is survived by his widow Dorothy and son Marty of the family residence, 333 Adeline St., Maricopa and two sisters, Mrs. Iris Newton, Farmington, New Mexico and Mrs. Violet Noonan, Moro, Oregon.
