John Perryman, 203 Lucard Street, former mayor of Taft and one of its most popular citizens, died yesterday and hundreds of friends expressed deep sorrow on hearing the news. Mr. Perryman, who was bon in Lamar, Arkansas on February 29, 1888, had resided in Taft since 1915. For 26 years Mr. Perryman was employed by the Pioneer Mercantile Company, acting as manager of the Business here and his civic duties also claimed much of his time during his active years. He became a member of the Taft City Council in 1942 and was elected to the office of Mayor in 1945, a post he held until 1950. He later served the city as treasurer. In recent years, Mr. Perryman had lived in retirement with his wife, Lura, who survives him. He is also survived by a sister, Florence Patterson of Taft and several nieces and nephews. Plans are being made for funeral services to be held on Friday, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Slorpe, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating in Erickson and Brown Funeral Home. Interment will be in West Side Cemetery.
