Mr. John L. Simmons, 63, former resident of Taft succumbed in Atwater Sunday. He had been residing in Atwater for six months at the time of his death. Mr. Simmons a retired carpenter, was a veteran of World War I and was born in Homer, LA. Survivors include his widow, Evelyn Grant Simmons, Atwater; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Barrow, Atwater; Mrs. Robert Stowe, Taft; Mrs. Herbert Clark of Buena Park. Three sons, surviving are John L. Jr., Midland, Texas, Captain Grant A. Monterey and James E. Lafayette, Calif. One brother, James O. Simmons, Eustis, Florida, and 11 grandchildren also survive. Graveside rites will conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in the West Side District Cemetery with William O. Erickson officiating.
