James C. Burke, a resident of Taft for more than 40 years, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 71. Mr. Burke, a native of Fayetteville, Ark., was born Dec. 28, 1892. He made his home here at 116 Naylor Ave. and was a retired Oil Worker. Mr. Burke is survived by his wife, Eileen Burke of Taft; a daughter, Mary Covin of El Segundo; one son, LT. (j.g.) Terrence C. Burke of the U.S. Navy; two sisters, Ethel Hungerford of Chino and Lulu Lord of Huntington Park and one grandson. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday with requiem mass at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
