Funeral services for Beecher “Pete” Rintoul, 76, will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the chapel of the Erickson and Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Slorpe of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Mr. Rintoul was born in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, on Aug. 12, 1887, but grew up in the San Francisco area. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1911 with a degree in civil engineering. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co., and for the Kern County Land Co. in Bakersfield before coming to Taft in 1917 as an engineer for the Western Water Co. In 1919, Mr. Rintoul became superintendent of the company and held this position until he became vice president and general manager in 1940. When the present West Kern County Water District was formed, he stayed on as manager. He was active in many community organizations, serving for about 15 years as a member of the Taft Union High School Board during the 1920s and 1930s. He was also a past president of the Taft Rotary Club, a director of the West Side Hospital District, and a 50 year member of the F&AM, Bakersfield Lodge 224. Mr. Rintoul is survived by three sons, Beecher of Berkeley, David and William of Bakersfield; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Rollin of San Francisco, DeWitt of Hollywood and Walter of Berkeley; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie Logie of Berkeley, Mrs. Vida Smith of Vallejo Mrs. Nina Arter of Sausalito and Mrs. Eva Christoe of Alameda.
