Mrs. Helena Schmitt died yesterday morning in a local hospital. She had resided in Taft the past 39 years and had been a postal clerk in the local post office for 31 years. The family residence is 313 Kern Street. Mrs. Schmitt was born in Mohrse Corners, Canada, April 19, 1893. She is survived by her husband, Garland, seven sons; James F. of Bakersfield, Robert R. of Los Gatos, Phillip J. of Santa Monica, Thomas G. of Richmond, Charles F. of Anaheim, William E. of Santa Maria and Lawrence Eugene of Palo Alto, four daughters; Mrs. W. Woop of Taft, Sister Mary Regina O.P. of Karachi, Pakistan, Helen Louise Rankin of Healdsburg, Calif., and Mary Jane Schmitt of San Jose. Eleven grandchildren also survive and two brothers, J. W. McKee of Plentywood, Montana, and J. Mckee of Tappen, North Dakota. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tonight in Erickson and Brown Chapel. The sons of Mrs. Schmitt will be the pallbearers. Mass will be said in the Catholic Church tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock. Father Patrick McHugh will celebrate Mass. Burial will be in West Side District Cemetery.
