Birth: Mar. 23, 1877 Olmos (Guadalupe County)Guadalupe County Texas, USA Death: Feb. 21, 1950 Taft Kern County California, USA My Grandfather FRED WALTER,SR. married JULIA VIRGINIA TROTT in the state of Texas. They had six children: LOUELLA, LOUISE, JESSIE, LEOLA, WALTER DELAND WALTER, and FRED D. WALTER, JR.The family moved from Texas to Taft, California, and Mr. Walter was able to obtain employment with the City of Taft as the local “Poundmaster.” He was very dedicated to his job, taking good care of all the animals he had to bring to the pound. He would seek to find the owners of the pets, to the best of his ability. Mr. WALTER held this position until his retirement. After his retirement from the City of Taft, he had several hobbies; gardening being his favorite. He liked to work with plastic and wood, designing and putting together different sized storage boxes. Everyone always wanted to have one of Grandpa’s attractive, homemade boxes. He loved to garden, though, growing delicious fruits and vegetables; giving away some to the neighbors and/or anyone who happened to be walking by at the time. My grandmother did a lot of canning, of course.Grandpa was an honest, hard-working man, well-liked and respected by all who knew him. He loved his family very much. He always put them first~~ that’s my take. I was thirteen years old when he died February 21, 1950.
