Funeral services were held yesterday at the West Side District Cemetery for Mrs. Emma Mahurin of Taft. Rev. Father Patrick McHugh officiated. Mrs. Mahurin who made her home at 501 Garrett Street, Taft, with her daughter Mrs. Rose Parker, passed away in a Bakersfield hospital Friday night, December 1, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of California. She was born May 20, 1872, in Inyo County and was the granddaughter of Mrs. Ben Kelsey, the first white woman to cross the plains to California in 1851. Besides Mrs. Parker, she is survived by three other daughters; Mrs. Rena Cross of Coalinga, Hazel Jones of Independence, Oregon, and Geniva McGowan of Mannmouth, Oregon; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, Will Clanton of Madera. Burial was in West Side District Cemetery.
