Earl Franklin Thomas, who operated the Thomas Grocery in Cuyama, died in a local hospital this morning at the age of 55. Thomas, born in Grafton, Illinois, on July 12, 1907, has resided in Cuyama Valley for the past 14 years. He is a member and past master of Bethalto Lodge No. 406 in Bethalto, Illinois, as well as a member of the Maricopa Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Taft Elks Lodge. Survivors include his widow, Hazel K. of Cuyama, and four sisters, Mrs. Lena Moody of Wood River, Illinois, Mrs. Leta Hurley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mrs. Edith Fletcher of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Mrs. LaVell Reuss of Downey. Funeral services will be held tomorrow in the Erickson and Brown Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Services will be conducted by Maricopa Lodge 434 F&AM with Worshipful Master Donald E. Devine directing.
