Darrell Lee Dooley August 19, 1936 – March 17, 2008Funeral services will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for Taft native, Darrell Lee Dooley, 71. Rev. Tom White, Pastor of the Cuyama Assembly of God will officiate. Entombment will follow in the West Side District Cemetery Mausoleum. Darrell was born in Taft on August 19, 1936 and passed away in Bakersfield on March 17, 2008. He was raised in Fellows and attended Fellows elementary schools and graduated from Taft Union High School in 1954. Darrell also attended Taft College. He served his country as a Member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. He owned and operated Darrell’s Body Shop for over 50 years and Darrell’s Towing for over 35 years. Darrell was very active in the community and was a member and past president of the Taft District Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Taft. Darrell was an active member of the Highway Rodders Car Club and he enjoyed fellowship with other car clubs, especially the Bent Axles and the Old Friends car clubs. Car shows of every kind were of great interest to Darrell, especially the Run To The Sun car show. He was precede in death by his parents, Garnett and Wilma Dooley and by his first wife, Joyce. His survivors include his wife, Shirley of Taft; his children, Lynn of Petaluma, Lisa of Bakersfield, Marsha, Denise and Jason all of Taft; his grandchildren, Sarah, Jeffrey, Britney, Lonnie and SJ; his sister Darlene; his special friend Virgil Merrell, Fred Ash and Ed Norton and by many, many friends. Those who wish may pay their respects on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home, Taft.
