Cherokee Phil Stephens, 59, 208 Philippine St., died yesterday in a local hospital. Mr. Stephens was born in Claremore, Okla., on May 23, 1905 and had been a resident of the West Side for the past 36 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a machinist’s mate second class in the Navy. Mr. Stephens was a Standard Oil Company Employee. Survivors include his widow, Ellen, of the home; one brother, Jack of Fresno; three sisters, Mrs. Ola Byers, Mrs. Sarah Kelsey and Mrs. Nell McWilliams, all of Taft; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the Erickson and Brown Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Oren Lee of the Nazarene Church. Burial will be conducted at the West Side District Cemetery.
