Austin Smith Rowland, 40, of 615 Shattuck Avenue, died yesterday morning in a Bakersfield hospital. He had resided here for the past 15 years. Born Oct. 20, 1922, in Parris, Arkansas. Rowland was a veteran of World War II service with the Navy. He was employee of the Berry Oil Company and a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Taft. Survivors include his widow, Hettie; three daughters, Mrs. Betty McNeill, Edith Rowland and Peggy Rowland, all of Taft; five brothers, Robert R. of Dyess, Arkansas, Everett R. of Taft, Guy T. of Bakersfield, George of Taft and Albert L. of Paris, Arkansas; and three sisters Mrs. Bessie Anderson of Fresno, Mrs. Orlene Davis and Mrs. Ann Berry, both of Taft. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church at 314 Asher Avenue. Rev. Wesley T. Williams of the First Pentecostal Church will officiate and burial will follow in the West Side District Cemetery.
