Arthur Grant Johns, 305 Tyler Street, passed away in a local hospital April 11. He was born September 29, 1895 in Long Grove, Oklahoma and had resided on the West Side the past 10 years. He was a Veteran of WWI and belonged to the American Legion Taft Barracks 305. Mr. Johns is survived by his widow, Ethel Viola Johns of Taft; two sons, Haskell Grant Johns of Graham, Texas and Lennie (Jake) Johns of Santa Paula, California; two daughters, Okemah Jones of Taft and Genoma Watts of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers, Perry of Graham, Texas, Henry of Bakersfield, Winfield of Taft and Marion of Avenal; four sisters, Mae Upton of Victorville, Ruth Barble of Avenal, Lora Gill of Corning, Calif. and Eva Upton of Riverside, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Erickson and Brown Funeral Home with Reverend Lonnie McAllister, minister of the Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Side District Cemetery.
